Food for Me: Lesson 3 - Factors that Affect Food Choices
In this lesson, students examine how various factors related to personal needs and available resources influence their food choices.
Activities:
📚 Case Study
Students engage with a fictional scenario designed to highlight the many factors – such as culture, budget, and access – that impact food decisions. This case study creates a space to discuss food without requiring personal disclosures.
🛒 This or That?
This activity simulates a grocery store experience where students analyze how multiple factors affect food choices. It emphasizes the complexity of decisions beyond price, incorporating “Did You Know?” facts to guide students through the process. Food costs are standardized for comparison, but real-life pricing varies. Tip: This activity pairs well with math lessons on unit pricing.
