A Guided Discovery of Canada's Food Guide: Grades 7–9
Busy junior high teachers – this one’s for you. A Guided Discovery of Canada’s Food Guide is a five-lesson digital program that is completely plug-and-play, making it easy to integrate into your existing health or wellness curriculum. Developed for grades 7 to 9 in Alberta and Saskatchewan, this resource helps students dive into the Canada’s Food Guide website, apply key concepts to everyday situations, and use critical thinking skills to evaluate health and nutrition information.
The five lessons cover different themes from Canada’s Food Guide, starting with The Canada’s Food Guide Plate, which lays the foundation for subsequent lessons. The lessons included are:
- The Canada’s Food Guide Plate
- Mindful Eating
- Enjoy Your Food
- Cook More Often
- Eat Meals with Others
Every lesson includes:
- A self-guided e-learning activity for students
- A slide deck with speaker notes for easy facilitation
- A detailed Teacher Guide with background info and tips
- A downloadable PDF of student responses to support evaluation and self-reflection
Bonus content:
- Curriculum Connections: This program was designed for grades 7 to 9 students and supports key outcomes in the Alberta and Saskatchewan curriculum.
