The Canada's Food Guide Plate: Grades 7–9
Lesson 1 of A Guided Discovery of Canada’s Food Guide introduces your grades 7 to 9 students to the foundational elements of Canada's Food Guide in a way that feels relevant, engaging, and applicable to their lives. In this lesson, students will explore the three Food Guide categories (vegetables and fruits, whole grain foods, and protein foods), the nutrients they provide, and how these support the body. They’ll also examine hydration habits and the importance of water, before practising with their knowledge in interactive, real-world scenarios.
Low prep and designed for the Alberta and Saskatchewan curriculums, this plug-and-play lesson includes everything you need to deliver a comprehensive, student-driven experience.

This is the first lesson in the A Guided Discovery of Canada’s Food Guide program. We recommend starting with this lesson as it sets the stage for deeper learning. Whether you're starting a new unit or need a fresh approach to food literacy, this series brings nutrition to life with the minimum prep and maximum impact.
